Data analysis is the process of developing answers from data. Ideally the data collection process was rigorous, complete and accurate and you have high quality data, however this is not always the case, therefore keep in mind when analysing the data that it may contain gaps or inconsistencies.

In my previous ebook ‘Learn Excel Visually – Excel Intermediate Formulae – Data Tidying’ I talk about data cleansing and take you through the process.

Now we’re ready to take the next steps. We want to be able to manipulate the data in order to start understanding the messages contained within. This exploration might require additional data cleaning or requests for data, but that’s ok; the process of collection, cleanse, analysis, interpretation and presentation is often an iterative process. To be successful in carrying out this process it does not necessarily mean providing the right answer first time, but being able to understand and give insight as to why that answer is what it is. A fluid process which allows you to revisit the data again and again is the key.
